Google My Business is a free tool that allows businesses and organizations to easily manage their online presence across Google Search and Maps. It is more than just a “phone directory” type listing though – you can use Google My Business to manage reviews, locations, hours of operation, services, create posts, upload photos, share your website, and more.
The great thing about listing your business with Google My Business is that your company will show up better in search results and map when people look for your service or product in their area (so this is really ideal for local businesses of any size!). While it might take a few days to show up in the listings after you have verified your business, if you continue to improve your website content and keep your Google listing updated, you should start to see some improvement in your ranking in search results.
Google My Business also gives you great insights into how people are finding your listing, what search terms they are using, how many visited your site, asked for directions or called you directly from your listing. This can help you improve your ranking by catering your content or targeting your audience differently based on their needs.
It only takes a few minutes to set up your Google My Business account and get your business verified on Google!
- Go to https://business.google.com and log in with your Google account (if you don’t have a Google account you will need to create one, it’s free).
- Add a new location.
- Enter your business contact details and category.
- Submit your listing.
Once you have submitted your listing you will be sent a postcard from Google with a verification code and instructions on how to finish verifying your business. Your business won’t show up in Google listings until you have completed this step. (In the video the listing verification went through immediately without needing the code because I was using a verified account).
You can fill out your profile in more detail, adding photos, changing your business hours, request reviews and more, right from your dashboard. You can also download an app for your phone to quickly view insights or make changes to your listing.
